USA Pro Cycling Challenge: Elia Viviani repite victoria de etapa. Jaime Castañeda fue segundo

Posteriormente se presentó el contraataque de los dos grandes ya mencionados y 4 corredores más entre los que estuvo en un comienzo Janier Acevedo, luego Edward Beltrán pero finalmente se fue solamente un cuarteto integrado por Shcleck, y Basso como los hombres claves. Faltaban más de 100 kilómetros pero los 4 se alejaron definitivamente del lote líder y llegaron a contabilizar hasta 5 minutos en su favor lo que les servía para llegar al pie del último premio de montaña donde Andy Schleck atacó y se alejó del lado de sus compañeros de aventura para pasar por el premio en medio de una auténtica fiesta de 5000 aficionados, con 60 segundos en su favor e iniciar el tránsito hacia la meta con 3 bajando y 10 planos.

El luxemburgués se empleó a fondo en un autentica contrarreloj, con el lote principal que se rompió en mil pedazos por acción del colombiano Sergio Luis Henao, respirándole cerca, a 50 segundos, lo que finalmente se tradujo en la conexión sobre los cuatro de punta en el último kilómetro y la carrera quedó para un embalaje en el que participarían unos 50 sobrevivientes de esta carrera norteamericana.

A 200 metros de la línea, apareció la figura del colombiano Jaime Castañeda lanzando el embalaje y en algún momento parecía tener la victoria a su alcance pero en forma de ráfaga llega a su rueda y pasa de largo el italiano Elia Viviani,  para repetir la acción victoriosa del día anterior e impedir que el esfuerzo de su jefe de filas, Iván Basso fuese en vano. Viviani con un tiempo de 04:04:31 segundos alzo los brazos en señal de victoria con Castañeda a sus espaldas, para demostrar una vez más que el ciclismo colombiano cuenta con una nueva generación de corredores que se desempeñan con suficiencia en todas las modalidades que componen este deporte y han dejado de ser solamente los “escarabajos “que el mundo ha conocido hace ya más de 50 años.

En la ceremonia protocolar, Leipheimer subió un día más por la camiseta de líder, Walter Pedraza por la de mejor escalador y Castañeda lo hizo por el podio de la etapa junto a Viviani y Oss, ambos del equipo Liquigas. El campeonato de los Premios de montaña está prácticamente decidido para Walter Pedraza (EPM-UNE), ya que detrás suyo están Rafael Montiel y Edward Beltrán, faltando solamente un escollo para los escaladores.

Última Etapa:

Con salida en Golden (sede de la cervecera Coros que inicialmente patrocinara este carrera) y llegada en Denver, se corre este domingo la última etapa de esta formidable competencia en suelo estadounidense. La distancia a cubrir es de 114 kilómetros con un Premio de Montaña de tercera categoría ubicado en el kilómetro 20 y los últimos 35 kilómetros tendrán como escenario un circuito de 5 vueltas en  el famoso Civic Center Park.
