Buena prueba para Atapuma y Duarte en California

Ha sido rápidamente el comienzo de una carrera de verdad para el Colombia-Coldeportes: El Tour de California – 186 kilómetros con salida y llegada en Santa Rosa ha representado un examen importante para los principales protagonistas y al final ha sido el eslovaco Peter Sagan (Liquigas-Cannondale) quien ha centrado el primer doblete: Etapa-Liderato derrotando en la llegada a Henrich Haussler (Garmin-Barracuda) y Fred Rodríguez (Team Exergy), a pesar de un pinchazo a 7 kilómetros del final que sin embargo le permitió retornar al grupo.

Darwin Atapuma y Fabio Duarte del Colombia-Coldeportes han terminado en el primer grupo de una etapa que fue más dura de lo previsto: la subida de Coleman Valley ha visto pasar solamente un grupo de 20 corredores que perseguían 8 fugitivos que llegaron a tener un máximo de 11:30 segundos en los primeros 50 kilómetros de carrera.

Tanto Fabio como Darwin nunca perdieron la rueda del primer grupo aunque Atapuma fue víctima de una caída en la primera fase de la carrera, afortunadamente sin consecuencias. Menos brillante el resto del equipo seguramente condicionados por el cambio de horario.

Satisfecho a medias, el DT Valerio Tebaldi quien querrá ver su equipo ahora más activo y determinado en las próximas etapas: “Esperábamos encontrar a Atapuma y Duarte en los primeros puestos y nuestros líderes se han comportado muy bien tanto en la subida como en la fase final en la que han pedaleado siempre en las buenas posiciones”.

“Los otros han sufrido seguramente el cambio de horario pero el lunes iniciamos otro tipo de carrera. Habiendo salido de los primeros lugares de la clasificación general individual podrán ser más agresivos en los intentos de fuga además de estar cerca de Fabio y Darwin en vista de las fracciones que decidirán la carrera”.

La primera ocasión será la segunda etapa de 185 kilómetros de San Francisco a Santa Cruz, las subidas del Empire Grade y la de Bear Creek están muy lejos de la meta para resultar decisivas pero darán nuevas e interesantes indicaciones sobre las condiciones de los protagonistas anunciados para este Tour de California.
