USA ProCycling Challenge: Leipheimer Gran Campeón. Rafael Montiel Rey de la montaña. Infantino sexto
El ciclismo colombiano no podía irse sin ser protagonista una vez más en la prueba y en esta oportunidad fue Oscar Sevilla quien protagonizó la etapa en su parte final haciendo parte de una escapada a tres vueltas de meta, pero sin éxito alguno y en la vuelta de cierre, le correspondió a Oscar Álvarez del Gobernación Indeportes Antioquia intentarlo con el neozelandés Houston y el canadiense Roth pero igualmente fue absorbido por el gran lote.
La etapa se corrió bajo un ardiente sol y temperaturas que llegaron a los 38 grados lo que hizo más exigente el ya famoso “paseo de la victoria “para el campeón Levi Leipheimer quien pudo controlar la carrera con su poderoso equipo RadioShack desde el jueves anterior cuando se corrió la prueba de la CRI en la que se hizo líder inamovible.
Lepiheimer es un gran campeón de talla mundial y tal vez el mejor de Norteamérica después de Lance Armstrong y su victoria aquí como hace 15 días en Utah no sorprende, pues se trata de un ciclista de gran clase y enormes condiciones para ser uno de los mejores del mundo.
Colombia ha brillado con luz propia gracias a la presencia de 2 equipos de su propia cosecha (Gobernación Indeportes Antioquia y EPM-UNE); y alcanzó una envidiable notoriedad al presentar una nueva generación de corredores que demostraron ser capaces de enfrentar a lo mejor del mundo subiendo, embalando y contra el reloj, así como un manejo colectivo y estratégico que dejó claro el nivel al que se corre en Colombia y el beneficio de este tipo de confrontaciones.
