USA Pro Cycling Challenge en el Colorado: Colombia comienza a brillar con Henao y Beltrán

Si bien es cierto el ciclismo colombiano que compite en esta gran carrera norteamericana no comenzó muy bien el prólogo perdiendo segundos preciosos, no menos cierto es que nada parece arredrar a los integrantes de los equipos EPM-UNE y el Gobernación Indeportes Antioquia, quienes en la primera etapa en línea corrida sobre 165 kilómetros entre Salida y Crest Butter con una dosis de media montaña en el kilómetro 42 y en la parte final con 3 kilómetros de escalada para llegar a la meta, se mostraron en toda su dimensión y comenzaron a responder por un protagonismo que les ha asignado la crítica internacional aquí presente.

La primera aparición del ciclismo colombiano la hizo el joven del EPM-UNE, Edward Beltrán, quien prácticamente de salida se fue en una fuga de 4 corredores para atacarles a 3 kilómetros del primer premio de montaña en “El Monarca”, por donde pasó con 5:15 segundos de ventaja sobre el gran lote que subió a ritmo regulado.

En el descenso, Beltrán se unió de nuevo con sus compañeros de fuga e iniciaron el tránsito de 90 kilómetros planos y con columpios hasta ser alcanzados por el lote empujado por los HTC y demás “Big” de la carrera, para dar paso en los últimos 5 kilómetros a múltiples alternativas en las cuales participaron hombres como Walter Pedraza y finalmente Levi Leipheimer, Frank Schleck y el antioqueño Sergio Luis Henao quienes llegaron a definir la victoria con saldo favorable para el astro norteamericano que viene de ganar el Tour de Utah en duelo sensacional con el también astro colombiano quien estará el año próximo en las filas de uno de los grandes equipos del mundo (SKY Procycling ) de Inglaterra.

El gran lote llegó muy fraccionado y fue notoria la presencia de otros corredores colombianos cerca de los punteros, entre ellos Oscar Sevilla quien hizo su ingreso en la novena plaza, lo que le valió subir al puesto 12 de la general ahora a 44 segundos mientras su compañero de equipo Sergio Henao es 13 a 45 segundos del nuevo líder Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack).

De este modo, subió al podio por la camiseta del mejor escalador Edward Beltrán del EPM-UNE en actitud que no es extraña a organizadores de carreras y rivales de los ciclistas colombianos con lo cual se sigue ratificando una vez más el gran nivel de nuestro pedalismo, con el cual se compite inicialmente en la temporada nacional para llegar a las grandes confrontaciones internacionales como sucede en este caso y ha sucedido en los años anteriores.

Etapa Reina este miércoles:

Con 209 Kilómetros a cubrir arranca este miércoles la segunda etapa del USA Pro Cycling Challenge, en un itinerario que contiene tres premios de montaña, ubicados en el Kilómetro 49 (Tercera Categoría), otro de Primera en el kilómetro 77 y el último en Independence Pass de primera, ubicado en el kilómetro 177 a 32 de la llegada, en la famosa estación invernal de Aspen, luego de una bajada de 22 kilómetros y 10 totalmente planos.
